The Digital Publishing product family enables publishers to securely distribute, and consumers to conveniently read and manage, eBooks and other digital publications.

New Announcements

Digital Editions 1.6 now released


Adobe has updated its popular Digital Editions software, a lightweight, rich Internet application for reading, acquiring and organizing digital books and other publications. Digital Editions 1.6 allows you to read reflowable PDF and EPUB content from eBook retailers, libraries and other digital content distributors who use Adobe Content Server 4 to DRM-protect their content. You can also move DRM-protected eBooks to mobile devices including the Sony® Reader Digital Book. To install Digital Editions 1.6, visit the product site.

Adobe opens eBook distribution with new server technology


Adobe announces Content Server 4, a new server software solution that copy protects downloadable eBooks for Adobe Digital Editions, Adobe's free client software for purchasing, managing and reading eBooks. Adobe Content Server 4 enables publishers, retailers, libraries and other distributors to leverage hundreds of thousands of titles for sale or loan and was developed in concert with more than 30 industry partners worldwide (see separate quote sheet), including Booxen Co. Ltd, Ciando, Ebooks Corporation, Hachette Livre, HarperCollins, Ingram Digital Group, Jouve, LibreDigital, NetLibrary, Overdrive, Random House, Value Chain International Ltd, and others. Reader Digital Book by Sony opens a new chapter on eBook formats


Sony today announced that the Reader Digital Book will be the first eBook reading device to support the EPUB format, the International Digital Publishing Forum’s XML-based format for reflowable digital books and publications. Starting next month, the Reader model PRS-505, will be able to access and accept secure and non-secure ebooks in the EPUB format. EPUB has gained acceptance among major trade book publishers, many of whom have committed to begin publishing forthcoming ebooks in the format.  Additionally, the device will support Adobe eBooks with digital rights management and have the capability to reflow standard text-based PDF eBooks for improved flexibility and readability. Publishing Tools

Use these publishing tools to facilitate the production and validatation of well-formed, device-ready EPUB content.

EpubCheck

If you want to validate your EPUB files, run this Java-based tool. EpubCheck can detect many types of errors in EPUB, and checks OCF container structure, OPF and OPS mark-up, and internal reference consistency.

Digital Editions Launcher

Use the Installer and Launcher SDK to detect if Digital Editions is installed, launch Digital Editions if already installed, and provision Digital Editions with a DRM fulfillment or with a content URL for direct download of unprotected PDF or EPUB content.
